Question:
Hello, are there any nurses around Santa Clara, CA that would be interested in teaching a wound care session at the California Nursing Student Association convention that takes place In November.

Answered July 22, 2024
Hello, The WOCNCB does not have this type of service. You may want to use our social media links to reach others. There is also the WOCN Society's website, www.wocn.org that may have resources.

Question:
I am interested in pursuing the PGP route for recertification of wound certification. As a member of my local WOCN Society chapter, how would meeting attendance count? Also, I precept students in my acute care organization but do not accrue additional pay. I volunteer to precept nursing students. Would this count as well?

Answered July 17, 2024
There are not PGP portfolio points for attending chapter meetings. If you were appointed to a chapter Committee, such as a one-year term on a "Marketing Committee" or other similar, and you volunteered your time to be on that committee, you would earn points per year from Category 3 as Member of a Local Committee, for 10 points per year served on the committee. There are points for any precepting you do, also in Category 3, worth 5 points for each 10 hours.

Question:
I am applying for recertification for the Certified Foot Care Nurse Certification but the application has my old name. How can I change this on the application? It will not let me change it and only allows a place for my maiden name.

Answered July 17, 2024
You can contact our testing agency to request they do your name change, and you would also need to attach a legal document to the exam application showing the old/new information, such as marriage license. You can reach our testing agency, Meazure Learning at: candidatesupport@meazurelearning.com or (919) 572-6880.

Question:
Is the cwocn called clinical nurse specialist?

Answered November 17, 2017
Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) are registered nurses who typically hold a master's degree, at minimum, along with national certification denoting advanced knowledge and clinical skills specific to a particular patient population or specialized area of nursing. Therefore, this designation (CNS) is not issued by our credentialing body, WOCNCB, but rather by a state board of nursing or perhaps given by the university while earning the MSN. In some states, it is a practice-based designation to use CNS.

Question:
Does the APN WOCN certification meet the requirements for CMS for an APN, and thus the Medicare provider #?

Answered May 30, 2009
The WOCNCB AP credentials would not meet the CMS requirements for an APN. The ability to obtain a Medicare provider number is based upon your advance practice credential, CNS or NP. Certifications of any type, including the WOCNCB credentials, enhance your scope of practice.
